3 Tutor Supply Ltd is managed by a Director. The Director has particular responsibility for safeguarding children.
4 Tutor Supply is committed in developing good practice and safe procedures in all its establishments, therefore, ensuring that any child protection concerns are handled with the appropriate care, sensitivity and professionally so as to cater and protect all children in our care.
5 Tutor Supply has adopted this safeguarding children policy aims to provide clear direction to all staff involved with Tutor Supply and expects every adult working or helping at Tutor Supply Ltd to support and comply with the expected codes of practice and behaviour in dealing with child protection matters. Consequently this policy shall apply to all staff, directors, IT team, teachers, students or anyone working for/on behalf of Tutor Supply Ltd.
Tutor Supply ensures that our main principles are foremost representative of our ethical procedures across the company.
- Prevention and Protection: we promote a positive atmosphere, professional and vocational care; we support all pupils and protect their concerns.
- Nurturing Support: we promote all supportive mechanisms possible doable for all children’s concerns.
B Purpose of the Policy
1 This policy is intended to protect children and young people who receive any service from us, including those who are the children of adults who may receive services from us.
2 As an organisation we believe that no child or young person should experience abuse or harm and are committed to the protection of children and young people. This policy is intended to provide guidance and overarching principles to those who represent us as volunteers or staff, to guide our approach to child protection and safeguarding.
3 This policy should be read and signed before engaging in any educational activity arranged by Tutor Supply. All staff and parents need to read this document and ensure this policy is adhered to. Contravention of the policy document may lead to suspension/barring from our services (see Compliance section)
C The risks to children
Nearly every child grows up in a safe and happy environment and it is important not to exaggerate or overestimate the dangers. Nevertheless, there are situations where children need protection including:
o Sexual abuse
o Physical and emotional abuse and neglect
o Domestic violence
o Inappropriate supervision by staff or volunteers
o Bullying, cyber bullying, acts of violence and aggression within our schools and campuses
o Unsafe environments and activities
D Universality of Protection
We recognise that:
o the welfare of the child is paramount
o all children regardless of race, gender, religious belief, disability, age, sexual orientation or identity have a right to equal protection from harm.
o some children are more vulnerable to harm as a result of their circumstances, prior experiences, communication needs or level of dependency.
o working with children, young people, their parents and/or guardians, carers or other agencies is essential to protecting their wellbeing.
E Safeguarding children during educational support:
1 We offer a range of educational support services:
1.1 those open to adults and children of all ages; teaching/tutoring, online guidance, home based teaching/tutoring.
1.2 those for children accompanied by a ‘parent’, teaching/tutoring, online guidance, home based teaching/tutoring.
1.3 those for unaccompanied children, which are sometimes run alongside other services, such as consultancy or mediation in schools.
2 Children under 16 who attend Tutor Supply premises must be accompanied throughout by an adult over the age of 18 who not only brings the child but also takes the child home again afterwards. Children under 16 who attend online teaching/tutoring support must be in the presence of an adult over 18 years of age and for the duration of the hourly support service.
Young people aged 16 or 17 may attend Tutor Supply premises unaccompanied if they bring the written consent and mobile telephone number of one of their parents and only after the parent has ensured Tutor Supply in writing that the young person of 16 or 17 can be unaccompanied.
3 For children accompanied by a ‘parent’ attending Tutor Supply premises, children under 16 must be supervised throughout the support service by an adult over the age of 18 who not only brings the child to the service but also takes the child home again afterwards. All children who attend online teaching/tutoring support must be in the presence of an adult over 18 years of age and for the duration of the hourly support service. If a lone adult brings more than one child, then the children will have to stay together, so that the one adult can supervise them. Young people aged 16 or 17 may attend unaccompanied if they bring the written consent and mobile telephone number of one of their parents and only after the parent has ensured Tutor Supply in writing that the young person of 16 or 17 can be unaccompanied.
4 For unaccompanied children, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult before being left with the responsible teacher. Tutor Supply records each lesson and premises of each child’s lesson including the child’s name, age and address and the names and addresses of the child’s parents, plus the parents’ mobile telephone numbers and the teacher responsible for the support to be provided. Young people aged 16 or 17 may attend unaccompanied if they bring the written consent and mobile telephone number of one of their parents. Children under 16 who attend online teaching/tutoring support must be in the presence of an adult over 18 years of age and for the duration of the hourly support service.
5 All support services are to be defined broadly to include any occasions where Tutor Supply Ltd will be providing a service whether that be online, home based or in a school environment.
- Teacher registration
* Tutor Supply ensures that all teachers are fully vetted prior to being assigned to an educational support service.
* Communication between the teacher, Tutor Supply, schools and parents of children under 18 is triangulated through a secure IT service means. Teachers, schools, parents have individual access to their own account and communicate with Tutor Supply prior to communicating with teachers.
* Communication with schools and Tutor Supply regarding teaching and providing support is initiated through emails whereby parents are copied in.
* Parental and student personal details, including contact address and phone number, remain private and confidential and will not be available to the tutor until after the support service has initiated and there is a valid reason to release a telephone number that the parent has agreed to be communicated at.
* All data held by Tutor Supply is in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
* Tutor Supply conducts interviews with all teachers both face-to-face and online; we request a thorough amount of identification as part of the selection process amongst others including passport ID/driving license, teaching degree/s, marriage certificates. Tutors who do not possess a DBS are welcome to apply through our umbrella company which many maintained schools use nationally. Tutors who offer our services always show their DBS to parents.
* Tutor Supply transfers payments to teachers via a secure banking transfer and Pay pal merchant along with the option of payment through our platform online.
G Disclosure and Barring
1 Tutor Supply Ltd offers the following educational support for children and organisations:
Home and Online Tuition, Special Educational Needs guidance and support, Mediation, Education Consultancy, Litigation, Assessment, University Guidance and Support.
2 Our educational support services, therefore, require adult teachers to undergo an Enhanced DBS and/or police checks under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. The required level of Enhanced checking reflects the degree and frequency of unsupervised access given to other people’s children. No teacher working for Tutor Supply has any criminal records and all teacher tutors have signed a declaration form to indicate so.
3 Tutor Supply will take very seriously any allegation of impropriety on the part of any member of Tutor Supply Ltd. A member of Tutor Supply Ltd who discovers anything amiss should get in touch immediately with the following:

4 Tutor Supply will review the allegation and the likely risk to children and, therefore, will consider banning the member from future teaching or revoking his or her membership or both, but only in full accordance with the rules and procedures of Tutor Supply Ltd.
- Tutor Supply staff receive Safeguarding training and are constantly updated on the governmental policy amendments. Parents are equally updated on these legislations.
Tutor Supply teachers who record online tuition for student benefits keep the recording for two weeks. All recordings are Tutor Supply properties and neither teachers now parents and students or schools are allowed to distribute these recordings elsewhere.
Tutor Supply will allow access to UK law enforcement of any recording where it is reported a criminal offence may have occurred in relation to a specific lesson.
- H. Roles and Responsibilities of Tutor Supply teachers
- Ensure that student environment does not display any inappropriate images and that they immediately report anything they deem that could possibly endanger students.
- Ensure that all teaching material is safe and prohibits any inappropriate content and images, treating all clients in a professional, safe and fairly, without prejudice or discrimination manner.
- Ensure language is appropriate and not offensive or discriminatory when in contact with the student.
- Not make any improper suggestions to a student/s.
- Not send unsolicited communications to the student or parent/responsible adult.
- Report any dispute with a student or parent/responsible adult to Tutor Supply, in accordance with the Safeguarding procedures
- Report any inappropriate behaviour or illegal activity identified within an educational support session by the student or third party, in accordance with proceduresset out in Safeguarding procedures.
- Treat the teacher with respect and not subject them to any type of inappropriate, abusive behaviour.
- Not make any improper suggestions to the teacher.
- Have no inappropriate communication with the teacher outside the educational support session
- Report any dispute with a teacher to a parent/responsible adult in accordance with the Safeguarding procedures.
- Report any inappropriate behaviour or illegal activity by a teacher within a session in accordance with the Safeguarding procedures
- make any reasonable checks for the teacher once in their establishment (including, if required, reviewing the student’s CRB/DBS certification documentation).
- Always be responsible for the welfare of the student during the session and that the physical environment of the pupil during the session ensuring it is safe and appropriate.
- be present/ available during a support session so any concerns encountered by the student can be reported as soon as possible.
- Ensure that teachers are treated with respect and fairness by the student and will not be subjected to abusive behaviour or language and that no improper suggestions are made by either the teacher or student.
- Ensure the student has no inappropriate communication with the teacher outside the session and report any unsolicited communications between the teacher and student if appropriate.
- Report any dispute with a tutor to Tutor Supply in accordance with proceduresset out in this document.
- Report any inappropriate behaviour or illegal activity by a teacher in accordance with proceduresset out in this document.
School and other educational establishments Tutor Supply offers services to must:
- Be responsible for the welfare of the student during the session.
- Be responsible for the physical environment of the student during the session, ensuring that it is safe and appropriate.
- be responsible for the behaviour of the student during the session, ensuring that teachers are treated with respect and will not be subjected to abusive behaviour or language.
- Ensure that no improper suggestions are made by either the teacher or student.
- Be present or available for the student during the session to address any issues.
- Report any dispute with a teacher to Tutor Supply in accordance with proceduresset out in this document.
- Report any inappropriate behaviour or illegal activity by a teacher within a session in accordance with proceduresset out in this document.
- If the support session has been arranged by the school but takes place outside school hours and away from school premises, it is the responsibility of the school and Tutor Supply to make the appropriate parent/responsible adult aware of the Safeguarding Policy and that both parties agree their safeguarding responsibilities.
I Policy on the prevention of bullying
Tutor Supply, under no circumstances, will tolerate the bullying of children either by adults or by other children. If any incident of child-on-child bullying should arise at a Tutor Supply Ltd service, those involved will be separated immediately and the parents of the children involved will be asked to deal with the matter. Tutor Supply will review all incidents of child-on-child bullying and assess the likely future risk to children. If appropriate, Tutor Supply will consider banning a child from future support services, but only in full accordance with the rules and procedures of Tutor Supply Ltd. Allegations of adults bullying children will be dealt with under paragraph 4.3 above.
J Photographing children
No photos will be taken or published of any child attending an event or activity unless prior written permission is sought from a person with parental responsibility. If any person has any concerns regarding any person taking photos at an educational support service, that person should contact Tutor Supply Ltd immediately.
K Managing behaviour, discipline and acceptable restraint
1 Adults supervising children at Tutor Supply Ltd must never use any form of corporal punishment. If physical restraint is absolutely necessary to prevent injury to any person or to prevent serious damage to property, then the minimum necessary restraint may be used — but for that purpose only.
2 Unacceptable behaviour at Tutor Supply Ltd support services for unaccompanied children that are a cause for concern will generally be stopped by separating the children from each other and from the group. The miscreants will be suitably supervised and will be returned as soon as possible to the care of their parents.

All persons using Tutor Supply services have a responsibility to familiarise themselves with the Safeguarding Policy.
Any tutor reported for a breach of the Safeguarding Policy will be suspended from providing services until the incident has been investigated by the appropriate authority. The reporter may be informed of the resolution if appropriate.
The final decision on action taken for minor breaches of the Safeguarding Policy will be the responsibility of Tutor Supply.
Any person reported for illegal activity whilst using Tutor Supply services will be reported to police and will be barred from the service.
Any person reported for causing harm to a student or subjecting the student to sexual abuse will be reported to police and barred from the service.
The Safeguarding Policy and procedures will be reviewed by Tutor Supply every 2 years to ensure it is adequate and relevant to national safeguarding standards.
